Danielle Hairston, MD

Danielle Hairston, MD, is a faculty member and Psychiatry Residency Training Director at Howard University College of Medicine. She has served as the Black Psychiatrists of America (BPA) Scientific Program Chair since 2016. She was recently elected as the American Psychiatric Association (APA)’s Black Caucus’ President.

Dr. Hairston has spoken nationally and internationally about the impact of racial trauma and culture on mental health. She is a contributing author to the recently published book, Racism and Psychiatry: Contemporary Issues and Interventions.

She attended Rutgers University for her undergraduate education and earned her medical degree at Howard University College of Medicine, where she also went onto complete her Psychiatry Residency Program and served as Chief Resident. Her interests include consultation-liaison psychiatry, resident education, minority mental health, cultural psychiatry, HIV psychiatry, and collaborative care.
